“He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters.” Psalm 23:2 KJV
I’ve often struggled to slow down, to rest, and not be anxious. In my attempts to “do enough,” I often miss the whole point and the better portion that the Lord has waiting for me. Often, this leads to moments where, because of complications with my chronic health issues or just pure exhaustion, the Lord makes me lie down. But how beautiful that the place of rest with Him is in green pastures and beside still waters; the rest and stillness of waiting seasons aren’t punishment or wasted but are an invitation to come and be filled, come be nourished, and let your hunger and thirst be satisfied by Him. There is rest, peace, joy, and so much growth still yet to come through sitting in His presence. He’s a safe place to come rest, cease striving, and let yourself be loved.

This painting of an abstract landscape titled “He Restores My Soul” was a reminder to me that though I’ve been walking through a long season of feeling stuck in the middle, left behind in the waiting, or forgotten in the barrenness, I know God will bring fruit and make good from all that seems dead now. In the unseen, He’s working, He’s growing new life, and someday soon something new and beautiful will bloom out of all the sorrow, suffering, and pain. This is not the end; He restores my soul.
